Hi there! I'm both an English and Geography teacher in London. I am currently working in an Outstanding school which is my second Outstanding school of my career in London after teaching in both Ireland and the Middle East. My resources are both English & Geography resources where I like to give the student an active role in their learning. It is done by many activities such as Q&A sessions, exercises, group/pair-work and many others.

In this PowerPoint we look at both characters within chapter one. Also to introduce students to foreshadowing in order for students to be aware of Steinbecks intentions within the novel. The lesson is structured in such a way whereby students start with a ‘Do Now’ and have an opportunity to give their points across through classroom discussion and think-pair-share. Lesson one shows students the context of Northern Ireland and a how ‘The Troubles’ impacted Longley. It also gives students an introduction to the poem and by completing various tasks. Lesson 2 analyses the poem in more detail in terms of both language and structure. It allows students to form their own opinion of the meaning of the poem through probing questions. Both of these lessons were used for remote learning but can easily be used in the classroom also.

This lesson covers all of Act 1 Scene 3 where both Macbeth and Banquo meet the Three Witches. The onus of this lesson is to show students the start of Macbeth’s ambition. Students are asked to ‘put themselves in the shoes’ of both Macbeth and Banquo. They then answer a series of questions before analysing small extracts that show Macbeth’s internal struggle and also ambition.

A PowerPoint presentation that analyses Bertie and Lionel's relationship in The Kings Speech. There are links to two particular scenes showing the development of the relationship embedded in the PowerPoint which are used for students to analyse. Students are then asked to work in pairs to create a timeline of this relationship. Students have clear aims from the start and deep analysis of the relationship is explored using questioning, visual prompts, pair and individual work.

This lesson was an observation lesson for performance management to a group of Year 7 students who are studying Gothic Literature. This lesson can also be used within a creative writing unit. The lesson is structured in a way where students are given awareness of the impact of short and long sentences. There are also multiple hinge questions and plenaries to assess the learning before completing the final task which is then peer assessed.

This gives students knowledge of the context by finding information on ‘The Great Depression’ and what life was like during this time. This lesson focuses on Steinbeck’s use of language to create atmosphere at the start of the novel. Students start ‘Do Now’ in relation to connotations, followed by a think-pair-share to talk about other connotations. I created these lessons as part of a full scheme of work on ‘Of Mice and Men’. The lessons focus on everything from context, characters and also ‘The American Dream’ which sets the tone for the rest of the novel. Each lesson has a similar structure: A ‘Do Now’, ‘Think-Pair-Share’, Information, Main Task and a Plenary. This makes sure that assessment is present throughout the lesson in many forms. This is part of a full SOW that I have in my shop for £20. It includes 20 lessons and also a detailed 40 page SOW.

In this PowerPoint students start by giving their opinion of Fagin from what they have read in the text before reading the ending of the novel. The extracts focus on Oliver and Fagin’s conversation while Fagin is in prison. The students work in pairs with differentiated sheets and answer questions on the extract. These are also included. The end of this PowerPoint then asks the students if their opinion of Fagin has changed after close analysis of the extract. The main aim of this class is for students to build a sense of empathy for Fagin and come to the realisation that Bill Sykes is the real villain in this story.
